Knowing When To Quit Class Location: The Internet. Description: This course is designed to help you know when to quit. Objective: Learn how to professional approach your boss with concerns. Job satisfaction is an important part of your overall happiness in life. If you dread going to work every day, it’s tempting to just throw in the towel. But before you do, figure out exactly what part of your job is making you unhappy, whether you can do anything to improve it, and if not, whether you have viable options elsewhere. There are many things that can make you feel frustrated at your job. Maybe your boss micromanages you. Maybe you’re not challenged enough. Maybe your company is hiring new, inexperienced people instead of giving you the work you’re qualified to do. Maybe you’re not getting paid as much as you believe you’re worth. Maybe you don’t have enough creative freedom. The list goes on and on. The question is what to do about it. If you have the skills and qualifications, you may be able to find what you’re looking for with another employer. But first, see whether you can fix things with this one. Explain your concerns to your supervisor and ask for what you want. Solving problems at your current job may be easier than searching for a new one that could bring the same problems or new ones. First, try to get an idea of what opportunities are available with other employers. Then, talk to your boss. Start the conversation by saying what you like about your job and how you’d like to stay there. Then ask if he’s willing to listen to some of your requests. Assuming he consents, explain exactly what you want from your job. But be careful not to criticize him for thus far not providing what you need. If he’s receptive, work with him to improve your situation. If he’s not, it may be time to look elsewhere. At least you can move on knowing that you did your best to make things work before walking out the door. |
